Mister Up's Restaurant and Pub

Only in Vermont for a few days and definitely glad one of the locals pointed me to this hidden gem! It sits neatly tucked away near an overpass by the town roundabout, so you will miss it if you're not careful. The cozy atmosphere and hearty food are worth a stop! The cheesy gravy fries are akin to the experience you'd get from Poutine, but expertly crafted and incredibly addicting! I will absolutely make a point to return here whenever I'm in the area!

The Reubens are soggy, and the corned beef was deli meat, not real corned beef. The French dip , again was deli meat that was not in house cooked, it was flavorless and dry. It took 40 minutes to get our soup, and the restaurant was not busy. The lemonade tasted molded, as if it had been sitting in the line of the soda line for months Unused. Even the iced tea lacked much ice. The soup was o.k. It's sad to see how what used to be a nice restaurant, has declined so much. We will never return.

I hate to give a bad review but our experience is what it is and I’m going to be honest about it. I do not know that anyone else would feel the same way or have the same experience we did tonight. Not every day is going to be stellar and we know that. But when we were asked about how the food was or when the “manager” asked how everything was, they already knew the answer. That’s the surprising part on the manager side. She knew it wasn’t great so when we told her how we truly felt she met us with interruption and said something about it being about the money (which it 100% was not) and that they can’t change it but can make a new dish, which we were not willing to wait another hour for. We waited about an hour and a half for chicken parm and chicken wings. We watched three young men be seated about a 1/2 hour after us and get their chicken wings first. We watched another table that went from two to maybe six after we got there and had ordered get their food first as well. There was a clear break down in the kitchen or on the ticket. Either way, the manager handled it poorly. We had been told to come here while traveling by multiple other establishments so it was simply disappointing. I hope the manager is educated more thoroughly on conflict management. The answer isn’t always to comp the meal and scoff as you walk away, sometimes it is to listen to the criticism YOU asked to receive and simply make sure to do better next time.

It's understandable in today's economic setting that running a restaurant is tuff businesses. It's not the best policy to share your business follies with customers. Most people understand and will be patient. However that is not an excuse for serving mediocre food at best. The steak was grizzly and poorly cooked. The wait staff were really trying to please.
